How long will popcorn, stored properly, last?  I read somewhere that it is a year. I'm tempted to buy a 50 pound bag via mailorder but that might last me 2 years.

50 lbs? I love your snacking sense, Fodette!

If stored properly, popcorn will last a year and possibly longer. The moisture content is the key so you may find that kernels will still pop in the second year. But even in the best of storage conditions, there will be some depletion of moisture so you'll see the number of "duds" increase after that first year. I'd plan for ordering enough to last you a year and re-order to get the freshest kernels and best results possible. Happy eating!
