2017 Winners

The 2017 Popcorn Pep Club challenge drew an impressive array of creative entries from schools across the nation, showcasing the heart and soul of teachers and students alike. It is an absolute pleasure to look through these entries every year and learn more about you and what makes you tick, so thank you for taking the time to make us smile. We are proud of you all! Your 2017 Popcorn Pep Club winners are:

Grand Prize--$2,500 

Woodrow Wilson Middle School, Tampa, FL 
Colleen Faucett, Principal and Kenny Coogan, Teacher 

Wilson submitted a video that showcased the range of activities they took on to celebrate popcorn. Wilson enriched the curriculum in reading, agriculture, art, science, music, “morning show”, newspaper articles, health, language arts, theater, history, math, Spanish and robotics. Check out their video on YouTube.

Second Place--$1,000

Sam Houston Middle School, Garland, TX

Sam Houston Middle Schoolers created a music video to the song “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, featuring original lyrics, singing, opening animation, and lots of popcorn fun.

Third Place--$1,000

Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School, Mechanicsburg, PA 
Sarah Berger, Delsie Zdanowic, and Jennie Mariani, Teachers

At Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School, they incorporated popcorn in all courses of their Family and Consumer Science department. In thier Child Development class, students were tasked with designing lessons that involved popcorn and could be used in the MASH preschool. In Fashion Design, students had a two-day design competition where they created dresses using only toilet paper and paper towels and also had to include the mystery element of popcorn! In the Foods and Nutrition classes, students were given 5 cups of popcorn and had to decide on and prepare a recipe with popcorn as the main ingredient. Administrators and teachers from all departments were invited to come and sample the popcorn and select the winner from each class! These winners went head-to-head at the end of the school day. Students were really excited about all of these competitions, and definitely showed their love of popcorn!
