If I have a popcorn maker that handles 1 1/2 gallons of finished popcorn, how much unpopped corn do I need to make that much?  (I.e., what is the conversion from unpopped popcorn to popped popcorn?)  I realize that different types make different sized final popped corn, but please give an average!  Also, is hulless popping corn any better than the regular hulled varieties?  Thanks!

Generally, one (1) ounce of unpopped popcorn equals a quart popped. Your machine holds 6 quarts of popped popcorn, which would mean about 6 ounces of kernels.

About hull-less popcorn: all popcorn must have a hull in order to pop. There are varieties that have a less noticeable hull in the final popped popcorn product (the hull shatters when popped in some varieties), but there are no varieties that are completely hull-less. It’s not “better” than other popcorn but people who have difficulties with hulls prefer this variety.
